Betty Grable — Hollywood, California (1943)

Betty Grable became the most famous pinup girl of World War II after a 1943 20th Century Fox publicity photograph showing her in a bathing suit looking over her shoulder. The image, often referred to as her “famous legs” pinup portrait, became one of the most widely distributed pinup art images among American servicemen.

Millions of copies were printed and carried by soldiers and sailors, making Grable one of the defining pinup models of the era. Her image was so popular that it was reportedly requested for reproduction more than any other photograph during the war years.
